 How to make easy tomato chutney?

Tomato chutney can be made in 2 easy methods with the same ingredients. 
They’re almost the vice-versa of one another. As the name suggests, tomato is the main ingredient for this chutney. Thus, the quantity of tomato will be more than the other items.

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED:

  • OIL  -  2 TBSP
  • CUMIN  -  1 TSP
  • MUSTARD  -  1 TSP
  • URAD DAL  -  1 TSP
  • DRIED CHILLI - 2 to 3
  • BENGAL GRAM - 1 TBSP
  • CURRY LEAVES
  • GINGER -  1 TBSP
  • GARLIC  -  4-5 CLOVES
  • ONION  -  little less than 1 CUP
  • TOMATO    -   1 CUP
  • SALT - As required

METHOD 1 - INSTRUCTION:

  1. Turn on the stove and place the pan.
  2. Add oil to the pan once it’s hot.
  3. Add the mustard seeds, urad dal and cumin.
  4. Wait for the mustard seeds to pop, and add the dried chillies without the stem and add the bengal gram followed by the curry leaves and saute till golden brown.
  5. Add the chopped ginger and garlic cloves and saute for 2 mins.
  6. Now, add the onions and saute for 3 minute till it becomes a little translucent.
  7. Add the chopped tomatoes and required amount of salt and saute it till it’s able to be mashed.
  8. Turn off the stove and let them cool down to room temperature.
  9. Once it reaches the room temperature, transfer it to a blender and grind it into a smooth paste and serve it with dosai/ idly/ roti.

Additional tempering is optional.

Follow step 1 to 4 for tempering and add it to the ground chutney.



METHOD 2 - INSTRUCTION:

  1. Add the chopped tomatoes, onions, ginger, garlic and green chilli (optional) with required salt to a blender and grind it into a smooth paste. Add little water only if required. And keep the paste aside.
  2. Turn on the stove and place the pan and let the pan become hot.
  3. Add oil and once the oil is hot enough, add the mustard seeds, urad dal and cumin.
  4. Let the mustard seeds pop, add the dried chillies and curry leaves.
  5. Now add the ground paste and saute for 4 mins.
  6. Once the colour has deepened and the raw smell is gone, turn off the stove and the serve the chutney with dosai/ idly/ roti.
