Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is located along 141 Serangoon Rd, Singapore 218042.
This temple opens
between 5:30 am–12 pm in the morning and again at 5:00–9 pm in the evening
daily.
It’s worth noting
that there are two other Hindu temples along this Serangoon Road which are:
- Sri Srinivasa
Perumal Temple - 397 Serangoon Rd, Singapore 218123
- Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman Temple -
555 Serangoon Rd, Singapore 218174
The location of this temple is in the heart of the busy streets of Little India and therefore perhaps the busiest amongst the other two temples on Serangoon Road. It’s easy to reach this temple via a short walk from Little India Mrt or with bus that stops near the main entrance.
This temple’s main
diety is Veeramakaliamman which is positioned centrally. The surrounding
premises has numerous main stream Hindu gods and Tamil regional gods such as
Madurai Veeran, Chinna Karupu, Periya Karupu, Periyachi Amman, Idumbar and many
more. This temple has constantly busy and there are often a lot of tourists
visiting too. Hence there is even a small basket near the entrance for
additional cloths to cover up those who weren’t aware of the modest dress codes
required for entry.
The internal temple
premises can feel a little congested during busier periods on the weekends
around the Navagrahas. The overall design seems as though portions of the
temple were added later and this the congestion on the front, left corner.
Besides this, this
temple frequently has Annathanam (food) offered to visitors and its normally offered
in the space between the main temple complex and the temples auxiliary building
which has a hall on the ground floor. Visitors who pick up the Annathanam are
often directed inside the hall to sit down on Pai mats and eat.
We visited this
temple the most during our stay in Singapore due to it’s convenient location
and the presence of Tamil regional gods. This temple is therefore highly recommended
to visit if you plan to check out other attractions in Little India. Alternatively,
if you would like to have a quieter temple experience around this vicinity, we
highly recommend the Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman Temple which is further along
the same Serangoon Road.
